Preparing Audio for iPhone App

Audacity is open source audio recording and editing software. Even though the interface looks simple, it requires some guidance before you can edit the audio file easily.

44,100 Hz. is the audio CD rate. 32-Bit Float is the highest quality.

WAV (Windows Wave Format) – WAV files are the default uncompressed audio format on Windows. It is recognized by almost all computer systems.

AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) – AIFF files are the default uncompressed audio format for the Macintosh. It is also recognized by most computer systems.

MP3 (MPEG1, Layer 3) – MP3 is a compressed audio format that works well for compressing and storing music files. The compression ratio is approximately 10 to 1 with very little sound degradation. Audacity can import and export MP3 files. For exporting MP3s, you’ll need the LAME plugin.

Ogg Vorbis – is another compressed audio format that is an alternative to MP3 compression.
