Blog Screenshot

This is the image Amazon.com customers will see while viewing your blog on Amazon.com site. You need to provide a screenshot with a minimum size 800×600 pixels with a GIF, JPEG, TIFF, BMP are accepted image formats. Also make sure that the file size of the image is under 1 MB.

What is a screenshot?

A screenshot, screen capture or screen dump, is a static picture of your computer screen’s display. The picture is a digital image taken by the operating system or by screenshot software.

How do I take a screenshot and resize it using Microsoft Windows?

  1. With the browser of your choice, visit your blog’s main page.
  2. Make sure that this browser window is the active window in full view (you may wish to maximize your browser).
  3. Press the Print Screen key (typically located at the top right of your keyboard) and the Alt key simultaneously (Alt+Print Screen). This captures your active window and saves the image to your clipboard. Note: Some keyboards have an F-key lock which must be turned off.
  4. Open a graphic program such as Paint (found via the Windows Start menu under All Programs > Accessories)
    1. In Paint, using the menu at the top of the application, click Edit > Paste
    2. You may need to resize your image to make sure that t is under the 800x 600 pixel dimension limit. To do this, click Image > Stretch/Skew
      1. Change the percentage from 100 to 75 (or thereabouts) for both the horizontal and vertcal stretch fields.
      2. Click OK
    3. Save your file by clicking File > Save As…
      1. Specify your file name
      2. Change the ‘Save as File Type’ dropdown from BMP to GIF. This will reduce the file size to ensure that your screenshot meets the 1MB file size limit.
  5. Upload your saved blog screenshot to Kindle Publishing for Blogs by clicking the ‘Browse…’ button near the Blog Screenshot field.
  6. Once you have browsed and selected your screenshot, click the ‘Upload Image’ button
  7. You will see a success or error message affirming your upload status. In the case of an error that is caused by a file that is too large, you should follow 4-5 again.

Masthead/Banner

The masthead/banner image size should not exceed 430×50 pixels and should be in the file format, GIF, JPEG, TIFF or BMP. The file size of the image should be under 1 MB.

What is a masthead/banner?

The masthead, also known as a banner or title image is found at the top of a website/blog and typically contains the logo and common website elements. It is used to identify a website/blog from page to page.

How do I obtain a masthead/banner?

  1. To copy a logo and/or masthead image (assuming it is a single image), from your browser, right-click on the logo and select ‘Save Image As…’
  2. Save the image to your desktop
  3. Upload your saved image to Kindle Publishing for Blogs by clicking the ‘Browse…’ button near the Masthead/Banner field.
  4. Once you have browsed and selected your screenshot, click the ‘Upload Image’ button
  5. You will see a success or error message affirming your upload status.
