Little bit of Core Audio

June 19, 2009 § Leave a comment

Core Audio is C, nothing related to Objective-C.

iPhone has no ability to independently adjust both rate and pitch at the same time. It can’t keep the same pitch at faster rate or can’t keep the same rate at slower rate.

Playback rate change is the same as speed/tempo and pitch change. It is not the same as time stretching and pitch shifting.

OpenAL:

  • Adjust playback rate and pitch via alPitch control “varispeeding”.

Audio Units:

  • AUVarispeed (adjusts rate and pitch)
  • AUPitch (adjust pitch but rate is constant)
  • AUTimePitch (independent control of rate and pitch)
